Planning Your Trip

Start by Getting to Portland

While Andrew’s Nubble can feel like it’s at the end of the earth, it’s very easy to get here. Long Island is 5 miles off the coast of Portland, Maine. Portland is served by an airport (PWM), train station (Amtrak Portland) and major highways (I95 and I295). There are multiple long term parking options if you come by car to Portland. By car, Portland is about 9 hours from the Washington D.C area, 6 hours from New York and 1.5 hours from Boston.

Casco Bay Lines in Portland operates 16 trips daily ferry service to Long Island. The trip is about 45 minutes and is a fantastic tour of beautiful Casco Bay and surrounding islands. Alternatively, there are two, 24 hour water taxi services in Portland, Fogg’s Water Taxi and Sea Tow if you want to get here a little faster. The trip is about 15 minutes. We also have an available beachside mooring with tender if you wish to come by your personal or rental boat.

You’re Here!

We will meet you at Long Island to greet you, transport you to Andrew’s Nubble and make you familiar with the property. You should not bring a car to Long Island. Biking and walking are a great way to explore and golf carts can be available for rent or for a taxi service. However, we often find that once guests arrive, they rarely find a reason to leave the Nubble until it’s time to go home.

Groceries and Supplies

Most Portland grocery stores delivery to the island daily through the store or through an app like InstaCart. You can also bring your groceries on the ferry with you as ‘freight’. Local grocers include: Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Hannaford, Shaw’s, and specialty shops. There is also a general store on the island, The Boat House, which carries basic groceries, drinks, beer and wine, snacks, candy, etc.
